A fleece inner will do for autumn; in hard frost choose down.
Guide
3-in-1 jackets
A three-in-one jacket combines a weather shell with a removable inner jacket. Check both fits: the shell should work with and without the inner, and the inner should be comfortable on its own.
Key points
Try both jackets separately and connected.
Check sleeve and collar attachments for pulling.
Reach forwards to check shoulder room and sleeve length.
WhyA good combined fit is not enough if the inner jacket is too short or tight by itself.
How do they connect?
In briefCheck cuffs and collar
WhyAttachments should stay secure without pulling at the openings.
What rain protection is provided?
In briefCheck the outer shell
WhyRemovable insulation does not establish whether the outer seams are sealed.
Frequently asked questions
Is every three-in-one waterproof?
No. The outer jacket, seams and fastenings determine rain protection. Check the individual description instead of inferring it from a removable inner jacket.
Can I wear the parts separately?
That is the principle of the design. Still try each part by itself: collar, cuffs and pockets should remain comfortable and useful without the connection.
Fleece or quilted inner jacket?
Fleece provides a soft middle layer; a filled inner has a different insulation focus. Choose warmth and airflow around your daily activity and pace.
Will any inner fit any shell?
No. Zips and attachments must be explicitly compatible. Matching brand names or size labels do not guarantee that separately bought parts will connect.
How much does an example weigh?
For example, Schöffel lists Schöffel 3in1 Jacket Style Okere Men at 0,970 kg. Compare weight figures only when their reference sizes match.
How do I check the fit?
Check shoulder width and sleeve length before the room at your waist and hem. Reach forwards as if holding walking poles, then sit down. Sizing up does not reliably fix a short back length; compare cuts when needed.
Wear connected over everyday clothing. Leave room at shoulders and upper arms. Check the individual model description and try the combination with your intended kit.
Separate layers before overheating. The combined jacket can feel too warm. Check the individual model description and try the combination with your intended kit.
Try the shell without its inner jacket as well. It should remain easy to move in; sealed seams and the hood matter more for rain than the attachment system.
